Walter L. Beard, MD FACC
Recently I was sought after by the CMO of Morehouse School of Medicine to assist with restructuring and assuming the role of Assistant Professor of Cardiology and Associate Program Director for Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship. Prior to my new role I served as a non-invasive cardiologist at Kaiser Permanente for approximately three years and established in clinic in Panola with the assistance of only my medical assistant. The clinic at Panola is exceeding expectations and outperforming other more established clinics. During my cardiovascular disease fellowship I participated in Population based research study and health disparities in the African American population throughout the Jackson Heart Study; under the mentorship of Dr. Ervix Fox and Herman Taylor. Our research findings have been published in numerous reputable medical journals and continue to be published. After working at Panola and witnessing health disparities firsthand my decision to pursue my MBA was solidified. Healthcare is one of the largest expenditures of the US government and without change our future will be compromised from a quality and access standpoint. Majority of my education was completed in Alabama both undergraduate and medical school. My clinical training was completed at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Currently I hold board certifications in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Nuclear Cardiology. Most of my spare time is spent sleeping, fishing, college football (Roll Tide), golfing, traveling internationally and performing community service with my fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. Lastly, I know that my destiny and successes thus far were ordered by God and without his love, grace, mercy and favor there would not be any prefixes or suffixes to my name. However, in spite of my shortcomings at time he is faithful and I am grateful.
